Ingredients:
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2/3 cup whole milk, warmed
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tbsp milk for glaze
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract for glaze
- Sprinkles optional, for decoration
Instructions:
Warm milk and yeast should be combined in a mixing bowl
Until it foams, let it sit for five minutes
Stir together the sugar, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract with the yeast mixture
Mixing until a dough forms, gradually add the flour and salt to the wet ingredients
The dough should be smooth and elastic after about five minutes of kneading on a floured surface
After the dough has doubled in size, place it in a bowl that has been oiled, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise for an hour
On a surface dusted with flour, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/2 inch
Slice the dough into thin strips, then coil them into the shape of a twisted doughnut
Preheat vegetable oil to 350F 175C in a deep fryer or large pot
Batch-fry the doughnut twists for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until cooked through and golden brown
Take out the doughnut twists and put them on a plate covered with paper towels to absorb extra oil
To make the glaze, whisk together milk, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar in a separate bowl
To get the glaze consistency you want, adjust the milk
Each doughnut twist should be dipped into the glaze, letting any extra drip off
While the glaze is still wet, sprinkle on some decoration if desired
Before serving, give the glazed doughnut twists a few minutes to set
Have fun!
